The Amplified version of 1 Peter 3 states: “Always be ready to give a logical defense [apologia] to anyone who asks you to explain the reason for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and respect”.
The Amplified Bible version highlights the need for a logical defense, which can include both personal testimony and reasoned arguments, while maintaining a spirit of gentleness and respect
Hence debates, discussions and reasoned arguments are needed for the healthy formation of relationships : with God, with fellow believers of different perspectives and the wider world.
Many at times we don’t find the right “Safe space” to ask questions and query into some of the hard to express, hard to understand/belief topics. It might be the limitations of culture, fear of being judged by familiar community, inability to shape the questions well or simply fear of questioning hard held beliefs.
We know from the Bible that Jesus never shied away from the hard questions. May that be our example to seek, think, and grow in our knowledge + experiences of faith. There is no young or old, experienced or new — we are all Learners. So let’s ask queries to build up our REASON FOR HOPE. In addition, since we are open to the WORLD, we will intentionally build up our awareness of countries & cultures — as citizens of Heaven & ONE adopted family in Christ.
