PRAYER POINTS WITH CONTEXT ARE PROVIDED BELOW , DO REFER TO CURRENT GLOBAL NEWS FOR RECENT UPDATES

  1. History & Political Instability

The DRC gained independence from Belgium in 1960 but faced immediate challenges due to a lack of preparation for governance. The Congo Crisis (1960–1965) led to the assassination of Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba and plunged the country into political chaos. Dictatorship under Mobutu Sese Seko (1965–1997) entrenched corruption, followed by continued instability due to weak leadership and ongoing conflicts.

Pray that the historical issues and strongholds of the enemy – including generational pain, trauma. Feelings of unforgiveness, vengeance, bitterness due to severe losses will not be hindrance to souls.

2. Religion

  • Christianity is the dominant religion in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with many followers incorporating traditional African beliefs into their practices. This blending of Christianity with indigenous customs is common, particularly in rural areas, where ancestral traditions remain influential. The estimated population of the DRC in 2025 is 109 million. In terms of religious demographics:

  • Christianity: 94.9%
  • Roman Catholic: 45%
  • Protestant: 40%

  • Other Christian groups: 10%

  • Islam: 2%

  • Traditional African religions: 2.5%

  • No religion: 0.5%

Other faiths: Less than 1%.

Pray that the Christians will unite in their faith and be able to conquer and see victory over their nation in their generation. May there be many Joshua’s, Joseph’s, Esther’s, Deborah’s Daniel’s and Moses that rise up!

  • Resource Wealth & Armed Conflicts

The DRC is one of the world’s most resource-rich nations, holding vast deposits of cobalt, diamonds, gold, copper, and coltan. However, competition over these resources has fueled armed conflicts, with over one hundred militia groups controlling key mining regions. Foreign interference and illegal resource extraction worsen the situation, limiting economic benefits for the Congolese people.

Pray that other neighboring nations, international groups, business and European supply chains will not exploit the resources of this land any more and enable socio-economic growth and true freedom for people in this nation.

  • Humanitarian Issues & Social Challenges

The country faces significant human rights violations, including rape used as a weapon of war, child labor, and forced recruitment into armed groups. Millions of people are displaced due to violence, with healthcare systems overwhelmed by diseases like Ebola and malaria. Limited government intervention and reliance on international aid organizations contribute to ongoing struggles.

Pray may rape, child labor, murder, forced recruitments, refugees and displacement, endemic’s to stop! Cover yourself in the blood of Jesus and plead for them

  • Ethnic Divisions & Border Tensions
    • With over two hundred ethnic groups, the DRC experiences persistent tribal conflicts and separatist movements, such as in Katanga. The arbitrary colonial borders imposed during the Berlin Conference (1884–1885) continue to affect national unity, leading to territorial disputes and fragmented governance.

Pray for national unity across ethnic groups! Especially for the high majority Christians to unite under the blood of Christ and adoption under Kingdom of Heaven. For true worshippers and leaders in spirit and truth for Spirit that break bondage to reign and create pockets of such movement for a revival.

  • Economic Struggles & Corruption
    • Despite its immense mineral wealth, the DRC’s economy remains underdeveloped due to corruption, poor infrastructure, and exploitative foreign investments. The country supplies over seventy percent of the world’s cobalt, essential for electric vehicle batteries, yet much of the revenue is mismanaged. Attempts at economic reforms have been hindered by unstable leadership and military influence.

Pray against corruption, principalities and powers, good governance over resources and wisdom for national and regional leaders of all levels. Pray for godly business men and women to raise up and shift the economy.

  • Environment & Cultural Heritage
    • The DRC hosts one of the largest rainforests in the world, home to endangered species like gorillas, elephants, and okapis. However, illegal mining, deforestation, and poaching threaten biodiversity. On the cultural side, the DRC has a vibrant heritage, influencing African music globally through genres like Congolese rumba and soukous.

Pray for the God given nature and wildlife, the righteous cares for animals. Pray for preservation and for any economic needs of poachers to be met in other ways. For restoration and redemptions for a creation that groans in this region! The second largest rainforest in the world crucial not just for this country but to the globe.
