🌅The Sunset Birds

Every evening, if time permits, I love to walk on the roof of my home in a Southern Indian coastal town before sunset. With the sky unfolding above me, I listen to worship music – sometimes upbeat, sometimes instrumental — or a thoughtful podcast. The sounds mingle with the colors of the evening, creating a space where my spirit feels both lifted and stilled.

I always pause to admire the clouds their shapes shifting like living sculptures, the light refracting into colours of green, blue, pink, and orange that dance across the sky. What a beauty! Apparently, even the simple act of admiring sunsets has a name – “opacarophile” (that’s a mouthful!)

For me, it is more than beauty — it is a moment of connection with the vast, real world beyond the small screens I stare at most of the day. It expands my mind, reminding me of the Creator’s canvas stretched wide above us.

Then my eyes turn to the summer birds. I don’t know their species names, but I have my own nicknames: the black‑white cranes with their elegant stride, the bold “white gangster birds” that seem to rule the skies, and the long‑beaked wanderers who probe the earth with patience.

Behind our home, the river sometimes glimmers with water, though by mid‑summer it dwindles, leaving only patches. The birds sense this. They leave.

And I feel a deep sadness. With the little water we have at home, I cannot feed them. I watch them fly away, wishing them well, hoping they will find richer pastures. My heart aches at their departure, yet it also swells with hope — for their journeys must be long, and I trust they will be sustained.

Then,I look up at the setting sun and remember: He cares for the sparrows, He feeds the wild (Psalm 32). If He cares for them, He surely cares for man and animals too. The Creator has them all in His mind, and He will provide. But this does not release us from responsibility. It reminds us of it. We humans are entrusted with creation to care for the birds, the rivers, the earth itself.

And when we think of our own lives, the needs and demands that sometimes feel too big, shoes too large to fill I see the same lesson.

Take it one day, one step at a time. Give your best, and trust Him with the rest.

Here is one of the songs I love and listen to for your playlist and your roof-top experiences! :

You dance over me
While I am unaware
You sing all around
But I never hear the sound
Lord, I’m amazed by you
Lord, I’m amazed by you
Lord, I’m amazed by you
How you love me

You paint the morning sky
With miracles in mind

My hope will always stand
For you hold me in your hand

Lord I’m amazed by you – Amazed by Phillips, Craig & Dean
